I understand your viewpoint. That's actually kind of why I classified this post as a "Crackpot Theory". As for why they wouldn't just survive or prevent a flood, it could be that they were planning to leave the planet anyways and used the flood as an excuse. no offense.. but it all sounds kind of stupid... a race/civilization capable of migrating to another inhabitable planet and surviving there would surely have the capability to survive or maybe even prevent a flood.. in a flood all they have to worry about is water.. in order to survive on the red planet you have to worry about deadly levels of radiation from the sun (the atmosphere is very thin)
